The Croatian Game Development Alliance is the main association of video game developers in Croatia.
In Croatia, more and more people are involved in the production of video games every year, and in five years the number of full-time employees has grown by over 50% (from 276 to 532[1]), and the number is even higher if you also take into account the self-employed.
We noticed in the public consultation that the new amendments to the Law on Contributions aim to abolish the measure according to which employers under the age of 30 are exempt from salary contributions. We believe that this will have a negative impact on financial planning in our sector. According to our latest analysis, 73% of employees in our industry are younger than 35 years[1], so in theory they can be covered by this measure.
Taking into account that the video game sector is one of the strategic sectors of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, in which significant state and European funds are invested, including through the construction of the Center for the Gaming Industry, we believe that it is important to take into account the previously mentioned demographic data on the age structure of our employees . We believe that in the absence of a comprehensive policy of contributions that would relieve the burden of employment in another way, it would be important for our sector to maintain the measure of exemption from salary contributions for 5 years for all those employed until the age of 30.
We thank you in advance for respecting our opinion.
